Choosing the right bushcraft backpack comes down to the activity you plan on doing, the weight of your gear, and the comfort level you prefer. With that said, not all backpacks are the same, so I have included a list of the best bushcraft backpacks that will be sure to last a lifetime in the most rugged conditions.
If you’re an experienced backcountry traveler or just starting out, there are a few essential characteristics you should look for when choosing a backpack: durability, storage capacity, and comfort.
All of which will be talked about below:
What Are The Best Bushcraft Backpacks?
Regardless of what anyone says, there’s not just one “perfect backpack” for everything. Depending on where you’re going, how long you’ll be out, or what your bushcraft gear list looks like; the perfect pack can change.
There are generic rules to follow that can lead to a pack that is extremely versatile, and this list is based on it. Versatility, durability, comfort, and capacity are all considered heavily for each piece of outdoor gear below.
1. Pathfinder Scout Pack
Best Bushcraft Backpack Overall
The Pathfinder Scout Pack is the ultimate backpack and a solid choice for all outdoor adventures. The pack design is by Dave Canterbury (TV Host, Expert Survivalist, Best-Selling Author, and Founder Of the Pathfinder School).
Needless to say, this pack has been tested by him and the school’s instructors for years, and it’s the most versatile and durable pack on the list.
The backpack is made of 1,000 denier military-grade fabrics for durability and includes a range of features, such as an integrated rain cover and – my personal favorite – one simple large bucket compartment for organizing gear (Instead of multiple compartments).
Why do I prefer a bucket compartment versus individual pockets?
When backpacks begin adding external pouches or a zippered pocket, all it does is increase the weight and make it more difficult to organize gear IMO. Large compartments allow you to easily arrange your gear and quickly find what you need.
The Pathfinder Scout Pack is the perfect size for most bushcraft and backcountry travel, however, it lacks the space for long-term wilderness treks, but it does feature molle webbing for external capacity.
I got my pack from Self Reliance Outfitters. If you’re an outdoorsman, Self-Reliance Outfitters should be your go-to for impeccably crafted bushcraft and survival gear.
Their products are made with the utmost care and attention to detail; I can’t say enough good things about them. I personally have spent tons of my money on both gear and training through SRO.
Features:
- 1000 Denier, Military-Grade Nylon Fabric.
- Has An Integrated Rain Cover.
- Molle Attachments On The Bottom For Bedrolls.
- Removable Internal Frame.
- Straps For An Axe Handle.
- Waist Belt For Lugging Longer Distances.
- Bucket-Style Compartment.
- Weighs 3.6 lbs And Is Water Resistant.
- Sternum Strap, Waste Strap, And Padded Shoulder Straps
Things To Note:
- Will Need To Have the Gear Dialed To Fit Into the 35 Liter Compartment.
Pricing:
$159.99
Capacity:
35 Liters
2. Duluth Pack Bushcrafter
Best Premium Bushcraft Backpack
Duluth Packs are some of the best bushcraft packs out there and this is one of the most versatile bags that they make. This particular model, The Bushcrafter, is my favorite because it has plenty of storage and is made with pure cotton canvas that is exceptionally durable.
The Bushcrafter also features an 18′ axe sleeve for your trusty axe, a removable waist belt for stability, and genuine leather straps.
This is the perfect backpack made with top-quality materials if you plan to be out in the wilderness for a while and need to be able to carry gear. It’s made with quality materials, so you know it will last, and it looks great too. Best of all, the Bushcrafter is made in the USA, so you know you’re supporting a hard-working American company.
The only downside to the Bushcrafter is that it’s a bit pricey. However, if you’re willing to pay a bit more for quality, this is the backpack for you.
Also, as I said, this is my overall personal favorite, but I would also list this as one of the best-looking, and best all-around bushcraft backpacks. It is nice and sleek, with comfortable and adjustable shoulder straps.
Features:
- Pure Canvas, Rugged Design With Leather Trim
- Multiple Pockets
- Made In U.S.A
- Removable Waste Belt
- 18 Inch Axe Sleeve
- Just A Beastly, Versatile, Super Sturdy Bag
- So Many Positive Bushcraft Backpack Reviews

Pricing:
$555.00

57 Liters
3. Teton Sports Explorer Bushcraft Backpack
Best Budget Bushcraft Backpack
This pack is of great value for the money, and I would personally recommend it to anyone who needs a good bushcraft backpack on a budget that can still hold all your outdoor equipment.
The Teton Sports Bushcraft Backpack is made with a 600D polyester ripstop exterior and has 65 liters of storage space, making it the perfect pack for long-term trips in the wilderness.
This pack, with an adjustable hip belt, comfortable shoulder straps, shoulder padding, and sternum straps, could be the best option for you.
At the end of the day, the best bushcraft backpack is the one that gets you out in the wilderness.
I love that there are different color options, so you can personalize your pack. Best of all, the Teton Sports Explorer Bushcraft Backpack comes with a lifetime warranty, so you know it will last for years.
The only downside to this pack is that it doesn’t have the same look and feel as other bushcraft backpacks. It looks more “technical” rather than “earthy,” if that makes any sense. But, at its price point, it’s a fantastic value and will do the job no matter what you plan on doing in the wild.
No matter what your budget is, there’s a bushcraft backpack out there for you. Whether it be the Pathfinder Scout Pack from Self-Reliance Outfitters or the Teton Sports Explorer Bushcraft Backpack, you can find the right gear for your outdoor needs.

4. Eberlestock Battleship Pack
Largest Carrying Capacity Bushcraft Backpack
If you are searching for a dependable, robust companion to carry all your camping gear on extended off-the-grid trips, the Eberlestock Battleship Pack is a perfect choice. It will be sure to serve as an invaluable addition to your backcountry wilderness trip.
With its 100-liter capacity, spacious main compartment, drawstring closure pockets, and durable construction material, this bag will proudly hold whatever is necessary for days – if not weeks – of adventure.
Although this pack packs quite a punch when it comes to weight at 9 pounds, the benefits far outweigh any cons; and on top of that, you can add even more perks in terms of accessories. Just be sure you are prepared to carry heavy loads.
If you plan to take a lot of items with you on an extended adventure, then this bag is worth considering. However, if your travels are short trips only, it would be wise to invest in something less cumbersome and over-the-top like the Frost Rive Isle Royale Bushcraft pack below.
Features:
- 100 Liter Pack With Side Pockets.
- Best Pack For Long Distance, Multi-Day Trips While Carrying Heavy Loads.
- Waist Straps, Multiple Access Points, And Compression Straps.
Things To Note:
- Weighs Almost 9 Pounds.
- Expensive As Shi*.
- Too Big For Casual Use.

5. Frost River Isle Royale Bushcraft Pack
Best Value Backpack (And Most Popular)
With its 45-liter capacity, the Isle Royale Pack is an ideal companion on your smaller trips without being overly cumbersome. But what makes it truly remarkable is its axe sleeve feature – perfect for any bushcraft activity or hunt you may go on. This pack delivers unrivaled quality at a great price – a combination too good to pass up.
The Isle Royale Bushcraft Pack is crafted with extremely durable, waxed canvas and designed to remain in your life forever. It has an unparalleled aesthetic that enthralls some, while others are not so moved by it (speaking of the waxed canvas).
What’s more, it comes with an assurance for life, so you’re confident that it is just what you want.
Although this pack is a bit expensive, it’s worth the cost because of its durability and longevity. Compared to other packs out there that are more expensive but don’t last as long – this one provides excellent value for money.

- Lifetime Guarantee, Truly A Heavy Duty Bag.
Things To Note:

Pricing:
$450.00
Capacity:
