Because of the tropical rainforest environment, there are hundreds of waterfalls plotted all over the island, and you’ll be mesmerized by their enchanting allure. From easily accessible roadside wonders on the Road to Hana to hidden gems deep in the rainforest, I’ll teach you all about the best waterfalls in Maui.

Before I dive in, I do want to go over a few different things to know before visiting the waterfalls of Maui.

The waterfalls in Maui have magical qualities, but no matter how big or small they are, they can be (and often are) deadly. Swimming is possible in many places and the jungle setting makes for one of the most mystical and memorable experiences, but there are things to remember.

Alright, now let’s go over 12 of Maui’s best waterfalls for you to create a memorable trip. It’s worth noting that most of these waterfalls are along the Road To Hana, so driving that should definitely be on your to-do list. In the end, I’ll go over some safety tips, accessibility info, and more with the Waterfall Hiking FAQ.

What Are The Best Waterfalls In Maui?

So, which waterfalls do I think you should you add to your must-visit list? Well, let’s explore the twelve best waterfalls in Maui that promise unforgettable memories and jaw-dropping scenery. I was never dissapointed, and trust me, you won’t be either.

1: Twin Falls: A Perfect Start

Twin Falls, a pair of enchanting cascades nestled on private land just off Hana Highway, is the perfect introduction to Maui’s waterfall wonders, and in my opinion is one of the best Maui waterfalls. I’m a bit biased, as I lived right down the road from it so I spent a lot of time here.

If you are staying in West Maui, this is a bit of a drive, but well worth it as it’s also along the Road To Hana. (This can be one of the first stops on the road to Hana highway).

After a leisurely hike of approximately three-quarters of a mile, you’ll be rewarded with a refreshing plunge into the serene pool beneath the falls.

Along the way, I would often stop at the Twin Falls Maui Farm Stand, where you can refuel with fresh fruit, smoothies, and delicious banana bread.

The trail can be closed at times, especially after a rain, so be prepared for some mud and check beforehand to make sure it is open!

Arriving at Twin Falls following periods of heavy rainfall ensures a truly awe-inspiring experience, because the falls begin raging!

The best part? No fee is required to visit Twin Falls. Cash donations, however, are welcomed and appreciated. Just keep in mind that the parking lot may be full during peak times.

My Recommendation: Parking is limited, so try to go early in the morning, or later in the evening, and on weekdays versus weekends.

Bonus: This was my favorite place to find some of Hawaii’s wild edible fruit trees. On the trail, you can keep your eye out for pineapples, ovacados, apple bananas, noni, and other growing fruits.

2: Waimoku Falls: Breathtaking Beauty

For those seeking a more challenging adventure, the 4-mile roundtrip hike to Waimoku Falls in Haleakala National Park promises a truly unforgettable experience. Towering at an impressive 400 feet, Waimoku Falls is one of the most iconic waterfalls in Maui.

The Pipiwai Trail, which begins at Mile Marker #42 on the Hana Highway, guides you through an enchanting bamboo forest, past a grove of fruit trees, and to the awe-inspiring base of the falls.

The moderate difficulty level of the Pipiwai Trail ensures a rewarding journey for those who take on the challenge. Arrive early in the morning or consider camping at Kipahulu to avoid crowds and enjoy a more serene experience.

Just remember to exercise caution and refrain from entering the pool at the top of the falls, as the water can lead to a steep drop and potential danger.

Important Information: Parking will cost $30 as this is in Haleakala National Park (Fee), and closes at 5:00pm. This hike is certainly prone to flash flooding, so be careful.

3: Puaa Kaa Falls: Lush Green Surroundings

Located just past Mile Marker #26 on the Road to Hana, Puaa Kaa Falls offers a picturesque retreat within a lush green landscape. The short 0.1-mile “trail” (not much of a trail) leads you through verdant surroundings to the base of these captivating falls, where you can enjoy a refreshing swim in the tranquil pool.

Exercise caution on the trail, especially after heavy rainfall, as the path can be muddy and slippery. Puaa Kaa Falls is a family-friendly destination, complete with restrooms, picnic tables, and direct access to the falls, making it an ideal spot for a relaxing break on your journey along the Hana Highway.

Two waterfalls await you at Pua’a Ka’a State Wayside Park, with the first being the more popular due to its close proximity. If you’re looking for a peaceful place to enjoy a family picnic, Pua’a Ka’a Falls offers covered tables with a beautiful backdrop of cascading water.

Important Information: This trail is not one of the greatest stops in terms of serene views. However, it is extremely accessible for families, kids and people with special mobility needs. So it is well worth it if you are traveling with kiddos. Bathrooms are across the street.

4: The Enchanting Pools of Oheo

The Pools of Oheo, also known as the Seven Sacred Pools, are nestled within Haleakala National Park and offer a series of enchanting swimming holes connected by cascading waterfalls.
